I’ve barely taken my Westbeach jacket off since it arrived. Practical, technical coats that also look nice are hard to come by, so I’m totally smitten with the aptly named, Crush jacket by Westbeach.
So, why am I in love with my Westbeach jacket? Here’s my review…
It’s Waterproof and Windproof
It’s 10k/10k waterproof and windproof and envelops you in 60g of insulation. The mild weather seemed to change the day my jacket arrived, as if it wanted to put it to the test. I’ve battled gale force winds on the nursery run and suffered the harshly cold rain as I’ve tried to collapse the five million boxes from our recent move. And for once, I haven’t been cold.
This is unheard of for me. I’ve been dry and super snug in this jacket. For that reason, it has quickly become my go-to jacket. Early morning walk to swim classes, scraping the ice from car windscreen, big Sunday strolls in the woods – wherever I go this beauty comes with me.
Thankfully the Crush jacket is lightweight so it’s really easy to roll it up and squish it in a locker or overhead cabin on the plane. It’s breathable, so it’s comfy wearing it inside too – like when you nip into a shop or something.
My Hands are Warm
One of the other features that I absolutely love is the half glove. The sleeves have a smaller sleeve that pulls down to cover half of your hand, complete with thumb hook. I never bother with gloves because I’m always getting something out of my bag (usually snacks for the mini-explorers) or answering my phone, so the option to have snug, but useable hands is great!
This Westbeach jacket also has double pockets with fleecy touches for added warmth. On each side the bigger of the pocket has a little elastic cord, which I find handy for keys. You know what it’s like when you’re trying to wrangle little ones and get something out of your pocket. I usually end up losing something without even realising, so this feature is super helpful.
The Wind Stays Out
The coat also has a fully adjustable mountain hood. It’s generous in size and if it’s not raining, it’s great for keeping the brunt of the wind away. It’s been pretty blustery at the moment so I’ve been using the powder skirt. I realise it’s for keeping the snow out when you’re skiing or snowboarding, but I love that it stops the wind from blowing up inside the coat.
It Looks Good
Although the technical stuff makes me happy and plays a big part, I’m not ashamed to admit that looks matter to me and so part of the reason I love this Westbeach jacket is the colour. The shade is listed as Brown Sugar, which I think is a pretty spot on name. On the website it looks a little more like a yellowy mustard, but in real-life it’s more of an amber.
It Fits Well
The coat comes in extra small, small, medium, large and extra large. I usually wear a 8-10 on top and wanted to be able to wear a jumper underneath the coat, so I went for a small. It’s a good fit, but I probably could have got away with an extra small.
