Top Travel Destinations for 2016

Jasper, Alberta, Canada, UK Travel Blog, Top Destinations

As the year starts to wind down thoughts are turning to travel plans for 2016. I’ve been pouring over travel blogs mentally making plans for upcoming adventures. Expedia.com recently asked me about my top travel destinations for 2016, so it’s the perfect excuse to share them with you…

The Netherlands

This destination is a definite for me as the flights and accommodation have been booked! Yep, this will be my first stop for 2016 as I’m visiting in January.

As much as Amsterdam is a fab city (you can find my recommendations here), this time it’s all about exploring a little further afield. I’ll be checking out the city of Den Bosch and obviously sharing it all with you shortly after.

Flights to The Netherlands are dirt cheap from the UK, so it’s worth adding this destination to your list too. For those of you travelling to Europe from further afield, bear in mind that Schiphol (the main airport) is a hub for international flights. Take advantage of a cheeky stopover with a day or two here!

This Balearic Island in the Mediterranean has a lot more to offer than you might think. I’ve been before on a family all-inclusive holiday many years ago, but from what I read it’s got loads more than just hotel resorts.

For me 2016 is all about busting myths and delving a little deeper into destinations, hopefully surprising myself (and you guys) about what places have to offer. Bring on the sunshine and hilly walks on mountain terraces.

I know I’m being quite vague with this one, but I haven’t been to Canada before so I think 2016 is the year to finally visit. The landscape looks phenomenal, not to mention the wildlife.

I’ve been dreaming of staying in a log cabin with views of a huge turquoise lake and tall green firs, perhaps with some elk or a bear in the distance. Alberta seems to be the perfect province to visit to make this dream happen. Jasper (in Alberta) looks ah-may-zing.

For a city fix, Edmonton, Vancouver and Montreal are all high up on the list too.

This Italian island made it onto my 2015 list, but I didn’t make it there. I got invited to visit, but I was too heavily pregnant to take the flight. Fingers crossed I can make it there in 2016, especially as it seems a fairly easy destination to get to with a little one.

I think the main pulls for me are the volcanic treks and historical ruins. I’m itching to explore Sicily, especially as the flights are so affordable too.

St. Kitts

St. Kitts is a Caribbean island that offers rainforest hikes, warm swimming and of course, lovely sunshine. More than that though, the music scene is incredible with various festivals taking place throughout the year. It’s also a perfect opportunity for exploring nearby Nevis. Two for one? Yes please!

The Grampians

After reading about this area on one of my fave blogs I’ve simply had to add it to my list. This mountainous range (also known as The Grampians National Park) is located in Victoria, Australia.  There’s a spot called Boroka Lookout that looks totally dreamy. It’s appeared on my Instagram feed so much, so I’d love to check it out for myself.

Petra is on my list for a second year running because it looks epic! Known as Jordan’s wonder of the world, it’s not hard to see why travellers flock to see it for themselves. I’m ready to unleash my inner geeky explorer!

Some fabulous destinations on your list – I’d love to visit Alberta and St Kitts is up there too. I’ve been to Petra and the walk through The Siq leading up to the Treasury is a huge wow. Happy travels for 2016

I’ve envisioned that walk so many times, so I’m glad to hear that it lives up to the hype. It looks AMAZING! Happy travels to you too, lovely. x

Some great ideas here. I can recommend Cala D’or in Mallorca, it has a much more authentic feel than a lot of the more touristy places. I am sure Canada and St Kitts will be amazing!

  • Looks like a great list Char! I’m glad I’m not the only one who carries countries over from one year to the next – I think maybe I try to put too many on my list! ;) I’ll be following your trip to The Netherlands as I’m really hoping to get there next year too.
