Things to do in Broadway, The Cotswolds

If you’re looking for things to do in Broadway, you might need to change your perspective. It’s lovely. Very, very lovely. But it’s all about the slower pace of life, rather than trying to pack lots of things to do in.

Known as the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’ and the ‘Jewel of the Cotswolds’, the small village of Broadway, in the Cotswolds, is quaint and pretty.

1. Shop on the High Street

Walking the high street will take you about an hour if you pop into a few shops. If you want to visit all of them, you could easily spend a happy afternoon mooching along the flat street.

Head to arts and crafts shop, Mary Maggs for stylish gifts and homeware. I bought a little present here, but I could have easily bought more if I’m honest.

2. See the Horses

Nearer one end of the main high street you’ll see a little field. If you’re lucky you’ll see a friendly horse or two. When I went they were partial to a little head rub.

A short five minute drive will take you to Broadway Tower. You can climb the tower and access the roof platform for impressive views.

4. Visit Broadway Tower & Park

At the same site you can do so much more. It’s a 50-acre estate of parkland with a 20-minute 1.2km circular loop walk through stunning grounds, including a deer park. There’s a lovely stylish café for when you’re ready for a rest and a cuppa.

Don’t fancy walking? Hire one of their e-bikes.

5. Explore a Nuclear Bunker

Yep, really. At Broadway Tower & Park you’ll find a nuclear bunker. It’s only open for guided tours, so you’ll need to book a place.

The bunker was built to study and report the effects of nuclear explosions and radioactive fallout.

The nuclear bunker tour lasts 45-minutes and goes 15 feet below ground. Access is via ladder, so bear that in mind. It’s not suitable for children under the age of 10.

6. Enjoy a Lazy Pub Lunch

Village life is all about the pub lunch, right?! There are a few pubs on the main high street.

The Crown & Trumpet Inn is a 17th Century pub, built in that lovely Cotswold stone. The menu is quite traditional; pies, fish and chips, sausages etc.

The Horse & Hound is a family and dog-friendly traditional pub, serving hot meals.

And there’s a few others. I’d recommend taking a stroll and seeing which takes you fancy. Or head straight to the Potting Shed (book ahead).
