Our trip to Chester was not only our first to this pretty city in the north, but also our first as a family of four. As you’d probably expect, it’s a learning curve, but if there’s one thing that really made a difference it was our base for the night at an apart-hotel called Roomzzz.
I’ll be sharing what we got up to soon, but in the meantime here are nine reasons why I think you’d love it too…
Inter Connecting Rooms
Having inter connecting rooms is amazing (and a sure fire way to cement that you’re a family traveller!). We travelled with our two year old toddler and two month old baby. Nova slept in his own double bed in one room, while we slept next door with Kit alongside us in the travel cot.
It meant that we didn’t have to go to bed at 7.30pm too, as we had space to hang out without fear of waking him. I’ve known some parents who have resorted to having a drink in the bathroom, whilst watching a movie on their phone!
With extra space comes the convenience of being able to head back to your room for a pit stop. Gone are our days of cramming in as much as possible to each 24 hours. Instead, we now look for a place that’s central enough and big enough for us to head back and recharge throughout the day. At Roomzzz Chester we had a big TV and sofa, so it didn’t blur the lines between bed time and rest time.
The perk of an apart-hotel is that you get the space and facilities of an apartment, but also the help and expertise of real people in real time. The reception desk at Roomzzz is staffed 24/7. Young children don’t really have any concept of time, so it’s really handy to be able to phone downstairs whenever you like. That said, we *may* have unplugged the phone to stop Nova becoming a nuisance caller!
The Free Add-Ons
Usually we bring our own baby equipment, but as we travelled by train we utilised the offer of a travel cot and highchair. We prepared ourselves for the worse – stained and rickety gear isn’t uncommon when you travel a lot – but we were pleasantly surprised. They were both modern and sturdy. The highchair even matched my suitcase!
Our room came with a fully functional kitchen, including cutlery, plates etc. It meant that we could easily cook food for our little boy. He was a bit under the weather so it actually saved us dragging him out to a restaurant for every meal or surviving on snacks.
The Mini Shop
Talking of which, the lobby of Roomzzz has a little shop stocking ready meals, treats and basics. It’s super helpful for parents. The shop may only be a few minutes away, but if it avoids wrestling a toddler into a coat it’s a big help!
We love hotels, but they’re not always the most practical. You often find that there’s just a teeny tiny bit of space either side of the bed that barely fits a suitcase, let alone a travel cot. In our Family Grande room we had enough space for the travel cot, our luggage and to play chase with our toddler. It took away a potential stress of feeling too on top of each other.
Grab & Go Breakfast
At Roomzzz breakfast is available via the lobby. You simply grab a paper bag to fill with pastries and fruit, help yourself to a carton or coffee and then go back to bed or check out. It works so well for families as you don’t have to queue up to eat in a restaurant. Nova definitely dislikes waiting and having to stay put for too long, so he was super excited to help daddy get the food and to enjoy a breakfast picnic in bed.
Whether you’re a family traveller or not, the price tag for Roomzzz is great. The rooms are modern and nice, but not too lux that you fear you’re kids are going to break or stain something. Rates start from just under £100.
Oh and if you stay with Roomzzz, don’t forget to use #Roomzzz if you share any photos. If you do, you’ll be entered into the monthly prize draw where you could win prizes like a free stay at Roomzzz or a fancy meal for two people. Now wouldn’t that be a great excuse to book another trip?
