You know it’s going to be a good night when locals tell you that Redwood Room is their favourite bar in the whole of San Francisco. Legend says the huge bar was carved from a single redwood tree. Whether that’s true or not, it’s easy to see why the locals love it.
The Redwood Room Experience
It’s popular with hotel guests too – and not just guests of Clift, but other hotels too. You’ll find it at the rear of the beautiful hotel, Clift (hotel review here). To enter you need to walk through the dark and mysterious lobby, which is a fun experience in itself. If you’re new to the Redwood Room it’s likely that you’ll sidetracked at this point, spending a good few minutes taking photos on the oversized chair and the coffee table by Salvador Dali. You’ll see other newbies doing this throughout the night, so snap away.
Pretty ladies in LBDs greet you at Redwood Room and take you over to your table – that is of course if you’ve booked ahead. It’s a popular spot which means that it’s definitely worth reserving a seat if you can. If not, you’ll have to try your luck at the huge bar.
Shelves upon shelves of liqueurs and spirits take the centre stage of the bar area. Although you’ll find your eyes tend to fixate on the digital artwork on small plasma screens. Redwood Room is elegant, classy and like something out of the 1920s. However just like the hotel, it manages to fuse eras gone by with modern touches. Forget traditional paintings. The screens show quirky art that appears to discreetly move. You feel a pair of eyes on you and then before you can clock who or what, the feeling disappears. It’s probably the closest thing to the moving paintings in Harry Potter.
The drinks menu is more enticing; deliciously naughty drinks to get you intoxicated – in a good way (it is a classy bar after all). They’re original and inventive, with ingredients like rhubarb-pink peppercorn syrup, Aztec chocolate bitters, and rosemary-raspberry infused syrup. The hardest part of your evening will be deciding which ones to drink and which ones to save for next time’s visit.
You’ll find Redwood Room at Clift, 495 Geary Street, San Francisco, CA 94102 or via their website. Let them know that Taylor Hearts Travel sent you. X
