I discovered so many things during baby Nova’s first trip abroad, not least the perks of travelling with a baby via KLM. Convenience is worth its weight in gold when you’re travelling with a little one, as is anything that saves time or reduces potential stress levels (or all of the above!).
Thankfully my first flight with Nova proved successful and whilst some of that was down to luck, part of it was down to the experience.
As we continue to venture overseas I’m sure we’ll pick up lots more tips (some of which I plan to share with you soon), but in the meantime and in the hope of helping fellow new mamas out with their ‘baby travel’ (or anyone pondering flying with KLM) I thought I’d share my experience.
Here are my fave perks…
♥ Local Flights
Many airlines have rubbish options from regional airports. Birmingham and Luton are my closest airports yet, I often have to trek to London for my flights. Thankfully KLM have great flights from regional airports, so for my recent adventure to the Netherlands I was able to fly straight out from Birmingham.
♥ Great Flight Times
I haven’t tested all of their flights (obviously), but the ones I did check have a range of good flight times, especially for travel to Amsterdam. KLM is a Dutch airline so I guess that’s not too surprising. We were able to choose from three different times and the morning flight wasn’t at a ridiculous 5am start.
♥ Seat Allocation
When flying with KLM you can check-in online and choose your seat, which is super handy. Jay and I had separate bookings, but we were able to log-in to our flights to choose our seating and managed to secure seats next to each other for both legs of our journey despite it being a full flight.
♥ Baby Gear
Despite Nova not having his own seat (he had to sit on my lap), he benefitted (or I should say I did!) from being able to check in a piece of luggage into the hold. This meant that I was able to check a case in, as well as his travel cot.
♥ Friendly Staff
Every member of KLM staff that I came across during my trip spoke excellent English and was super friendly. It might have been because I had a cutie pie of a baby in my arms, but either way they were great. Despite one of our boarding passes being ruined by a certain someone, the check-in lady happily printed me another one at no extra cost and without so much of a grumble. Certainly differs from my experience with a budget airline who shall remain nameless!
♥ Sweet Treats
My flight to Amsterdam was only an hour long, but we were still treated to free cake in an adorable box and a drink. That kind of service definitely beats overpriced snacks elsewhere, right?!
♥ Stylish Travel
Our plane was stylish and classy, not just for it’s classic navy interior, but because (thankfully!) we weren’t plagued with repetitive sales pitches over the loudspeaker. In fact, I don’t think we heard a single one which was quite refreshing to say the least and meant that Nova could drift off into his food coma in peace!
My first trip with Nova was a big deal and I wanted to start on the right foot (or perhaps I should wing?!). KLM definitely made that happen.
Pin for later…
