I’ve won a trip to Orlando! Can you believe it?! It took a while for the news to sink in, but it’s 100% confirmed. At the end of May I’ll be off to the sunshine state, Florida, for IPW and lots of fun. Eeeeek!
You may have already seen the news on my Facebook page (and if you’re one of the many that took the time to congratulate me, thank you SO much). Some of your comments were so, so sweet and made winning all the more exciting. I can’t even comprehend some of the amazing words these guys have said too:
“We are delighted that Char is our first ever IPW Virgin,” said Malcolm Smith, general manager of IPW. “When we launched the competition, Char was exactly the type of person we envisioned winning. She is energetic, enthusiastic and has an obvious love for the USA, which is important to any media attending IPW”.
Phil Bloomfield, Head of Corporate Communications at Virgin Holidays commented: “Char’s entry was really innovative and her vlog stood out from an excellent crop of submissions. We believe in providing opportunities for young talent to shine, and we feel that Char has an exciting career ahead of her. We look forward to following Char’s adventures in our heartland destination of Orlando this May’.
You’ll probably have also clicked that the photo shoot I mentioned in last month’s travel gossip round-up was to celebrate and announce this news. I went down to Virgin Holidays’ flagship store at Bluewater with KBC PR & Marketing so that we could get some shots for their press release. It was so much fun and just a taste of what’s to come. I’m thinking I may as well start including Minnie ears in all my outfits. What do you think?
I’ll be flying with Virgin Holidays on their direct flight, straight from London to Orlando. I’ll then spend a few nights in one of their hotels and I’ll spend my days exploring some of the more unique things in the area. There’s more to Orlando than just epic theme parks, you know (though they’re obviously super exciting too!).
Thanks to U.S Travel Association, after all that fun I’ll then be attending IPW, a media marketplace for the travel industry. I’ll be working hard with lots of brunch meetings and opportunities to meet hundreds of tourism boards and companies representing the whole of America. I’ll be playing even harder though, as the jam-packed schedule includes an award ceremony, pre-parties, post-parties and generally amazing celebrations. There will also be media tours, so I’ll be able to see more of what Orlando has to offer.
This is great for you too because the more I see, the more you’ll see. I’ll be blogging about it all, filling my posts with lots of pics and possibly creating a few #TravelTrailers too. I’m so excited to share it all with you. Obviously, I’ll also be learning lots about the other states in the US, so who knows, I might have even more American content for you.
How I Won
So, I say won but it wasn’t the case of simply entering my details into prize draw. I had to do a bit of work by sharing a Tweet as to why I should be the lucky winner. I decided to think outside the box and use my Tweet to share a link. The link led to a blog post, which included a #TravelTrailer of why I deserved to be picked. If you missed the post, you can recap my American Dreams here.
So, if you’ve ever wondered if real people win the many travel competitions you often hear about it, well yes, yes they do. I’m proof and if it can happen to me, it can definitely happen to you. Every Saturday I update my travel competitions round-up page for you, removing old ones and adding new ones. There are loads on there at the minute, so make sure you enter them and that you check back every week. And if you do win, let me know – I love a happy ending! X
