A lobby says a lot about a hotel. At Hotel Palomar, tall, suited gentlemen wait for your arrival. Well, at least it seems that way. They casually linger, ready to help at a moment’s glance. Sleek and shiny, polished and glittery, the bijou lobby is a discreet welcome to Hotel Palomar. It seems to be the place to visit, with a steady crowd heading in and out throughout the day and night, partly due to the hotel’s popular bar, Dirty Habit.
The hotel is part of the Kimpton group, a well-known, modest hotel chain in the states. A shopper’s heaven, the hotel is within arms reach of the massive Macy’s store, as well as every other brand name you can think of and the Westfield San Francisco Centre shopping mall. If you’re in the city to max out your card and wardrobe you’ll love being so close to the shops.
For such a small lobby, this hotel is big and you can easily feel a little lost looking for your room out of the 195 rooms. This also works to your advantage though if you’re looking for somewhere you can be left to your own devices. The guestrooms are more than big enough for a city break. Go for one with a street view. It’s great to see the cable cars and to people watch – see for yourself in this #TravelTrailer
There’s an arty feel in the modern rooms – even the pillows are presented as some sort of sculpture, carefully balanced. However, it’s not just for the shopaholics and art lovers. You’ll find a yoga mat in your room, which is an original and thoughtful touch. Just because you’re in a busy city it doesn’t mean you have to miss out on your daily run either. There’s a running club that’s waiting to adopt you for a day or two.
The bathroom is pretty standard, but is jazzed up with brightly bottled toiletries telling you to ‘dress to impress’, as well as some bold dressing gowns.
One of the best things about this hotel is the exciting packages they’ve built. The Needle and Thread Count package builds on the massive tattoo culture in the city. It includes a two-night stay, a daiquiri in their Dirty Habit bar, and the best bit, a tattoo session (as well as a consultation and a tattoo guide). How cool is that?! Talk about getting the ultimate souvenir.
The hotel also welcomes canine friends, offering packages that include a pet friendly stay, an I Heart SF dog tag (too cute), a dog friendly neighbourhood guide and more. Olive would definitely lap this one up.
This boutique treads a fine line between being unique and fun. It’s so conveniently located in the city that it’s really hard to find fault with it and simple touches like the yoga mat really make it stand out. It also manages to seamlessly blend traditional and modern, meaning it’s a winner for all kinds of travellers – the best of both worlds.
