If you’re looking for somewhere unique and exciting to stay in San Francisco, Hotel Diva will get your heart racing. That’s largely due to the sexy corsets and suspenders on display, though it’s not that kind of hotel.
Yes, the corridors are dark, the roller blinds are covered in glamorous legs and the bed draped with a rich, velvet throw. However, the headboards are made to look like sheets of stainless steel being unzipped and there’s quite a sleek, edgy vibe going on. Hotel Diva is a hotel with a personality; an urbanite’s cool, fun hideaway right in the centre of San Fran.
You’ll find this hotel within a few minutes’ walk of Union Square. That means huge shops like Macy’s on your doorstop, as well as infamous cable cars and steep hills. The hotel is also opposite the A.C.T (American Conservatory Theater) where you can see amazing performances like the one I saw. Despite being in such a busy spot in the city it’s surprisingly quiet. However, if you’re a sensitive sleeper ask for one of the rooms at the rear of the hotel.
There are three standards of bedrooms, as well as a variety of suites. The rooms are anything but standard thanks to the unusual decor. In the Executive King rooms crisp, white sheets work wonders with the Serta Five Star mattress. It’s a roomy bed and when you roll down the blackout blinds it’s highly likely that you’ll miss breakfast unless you set an alarm.
Of course it’s not all bad if you do miss it. You can just nip to the hotel lobby, through the adjoining door into Starbucks and then enjoy your breakfast in bed watching something on the 36” flat screen TV.
Like any diva would expect, there’s a huge mirror in the bedroom so you can check your full outfit before heading out. The bathroom is perhaps smaller than you’d hope, but it’s more city-style compact. Despite being cosy, the shower is forceful and it’s quite handy having the sink area outside of the bathroom – no foggy mirror to battle with when you’re doing your make-up.
Star of the Show
With a name like Hotel Diva you might be wondering if any true divas have visited. In front of the lobby you’ll find your answer. The likes of Joan Rivers and even some canine stars have left the mark so you’ll know about them. The question is, when will you add your name to this collection?
This place is modern, bold and fun. Truth be told it’s not for everyone; it’s for people who love a bit of originality and something cool. If you want to go home with a story to tell your friends and to experience something a little different, this is the place to do it in San Francisco.
