Gozo holidays are special and unique thanks to the natural beauty of this Maltese island. However, if you want to make it really special I know just the place you should stay (skip to the bottom of this post if you’d rather watch my #TravelTrailer vlog than read).
Hotel Ta’ Cenc & Spa
Ta Cenc is possibly one of my fave hotels in Gozo. It’s a 5 star hotel and spa resort, that’s full of luxury without being overbearing. It’s homely, understated and stylish. It’s the kind of place that you immediately fall in love with and feel right at home. There’s no awkward pretentiousness about wearing the right clothes or feeling like you have to carry yourself in a certain way. Put simply, Ta Cenc is a perfect retreat and I had trouble leaving.
This could possibly be due to the fact that I had a very unique stay as I was lucky enough to experience a night in one of the trullos. You may recognise the unusual shape of these buildings from Puglia in Italy (one of my favourite destinations by the way – if you haven’t been, you should read this post…or just go!).
Effectively they’re detached bungalows built in a round and topped off with a cone roof. They keep cool in the heat and the ones at Ta Cenc are dressed in a simple, classy design. The colours are neutral and the accessories are quirky. Pineapple light fittings, anyone?
The perk of staying in one of the trullos (or at least this one) is that you get your very own private view of the island. Climb the steps and lose yourself in the pretty landscape.
If for some strange reason the trullos don’t tickle your fancy, you can choose from twin/double/family rooms, suites and deluxe junior suites. I spent a night in one of those rooms and although it didn’t have quite such an impact on me, the private terrace looking out onto the pool and the jacuzzi bath definitely impressed me. If you have choice though, go for the trullos – they’re unique and they’re so much cooler in the heat. The air con in the ‘regular’ rooms is no match for the Gozo heat.
There are two outdoor pools at Ta Cenc; one that’s more inclusive for little ones as it’s a bit shallower and one for the grown-ups. Either way, during my visit both were pretty serene and relaxed. There were plenty of loungers, umbrellas and of course, lots of Gozo sunshine.
When the sun gets too much walk a few steps to the bar terrace for a spot of lunch, alongside some super cute feline friends and little lizards. In my opinion the lunch menu is better than the dinner one, but I’ll let you make your own mind up. I recommend going for one of the tasty ciabattas and splitting it with your plus one. There’s more than enough to share.
The grounds at this place are beautiful (as you’d probably expect for such a gorgeous island). The sweet scent from the flowers is amazing and you can even spy lemon trees near the front of the property.
To see a bit more you can watch my #TravelTrailer vlog tour… If you have plans to visit Malta or Gozo, make sure you include a visit to Hotel Ta’ Cenc & Spa. It really is a lovely stay. Prices are really cheap for a 5 star hotel – you can get a room for less than £50! I stayed at this hotel as part of a cycling holiday with Headwater.
