A couple of months ago I won an amazing £2,000 room makeover. Yep, a massive £2k to blow on one room! More than that though, I won the expertise of the Dulux Amazing Space team to make a custom design plan for my chosen room. To say I was excited is an understatement. My money is usually spent on travel, so it felt like a heavenly indulgence.
I’ve made a vlog of the transformation, but if that’s not your thing feel free to scroll down to the pics and the rest of the blog post.
I’m all about positive thinking and using affirmations to help things happen. The week before I’d been moaning to my friend about how I felt so overwhelmed about decorating my room and making it the stunner I wanted it to be. My time and money is usually spent on travel, so the fear of spending both of these precious things ‘wrongly’ meant that I didn’t do anything with the room for over three years.
Just look at it in its pre-makeover state:
I’m fed up of buying cheap things that never last, so I was whinging that by the time I’d be able to afford one piece of a collection the other items would be discontinued. I harped on about the size of the room and that I just wanted someone to magically tell me how to pull all my ideas together.
Fast forward a few weeks and the magic happened thanks to a competition over at Tigerlilly Quinn. As soon as I read the blog post I knew I had to enter. Ran by Dulux Amazing Space and TSB Home Improvement Loans, the prize was a massive £2k room makeover. The winner could choose the room, so it was a no brainer for me.
I got the lucky email to say I’d won a few weeks later. Thank you, universe!
Dulux Amazing Space Service
I’d never heard of the Dulux Amazing Space service before, but it was a big help. It basically involved filling out an online questionnaire about my décor likes/dislikes, selecting a few photos I like and sharing pics of the room. I was also given the option to share a Pinterest board with the designer, which was the biggest perk for me. To have someone make my dreamy hygge board come to life was perfection.
A Hygge Bedroom
The Danish word, hygge, which doesn’t really have a direct translation, was the centre point for my dream bedroom. I basically wanted something in grey and soft pink hues, that was modern, but snuggly, relaxing and inviting.
Unfortunately, the prize didn’t include any decorators so Jay and I had to do the hard graft! As much as we had the expertise of the team, they didn’t arrive at my house DIY SOS style. Instead packages arrived in little flurries and we excitedly unpacked them and then Jay unexcitedly set about translating the flatpack instructions and putting various things together.
That’s probably also the reason that we still have one or two jobs left to do; the lining of the panels for our curtains, a few more cushions and spraying the knobs for the wardrobes. Too many of you have now asked to see the before and after photos though and I’m scared that if I don’t show you now I never will. Nothing like a bit of reader guilt to get you to write a post and edit a video eh?!
So, what’s the verdict?
I love my new hygge bedroom! It’s exactly how I envisioned it, if not better. The only problem now is that I want to use the Dulux Amazing Space service for the rest of my house!
